The characteristics of a dogs breed can be used as a guide line. This doesn’t mean your dog will have all of these characteristics. Every dogs is different, so it depends on the individual dog. Example, Just because a dog is a Shepard doesn’t it will or can do all the things you see on TV or read about. Try looking at the parents, what can they do? What have they done? Pick a dog that is best suited for your life style. If you are low drive, meaning not very active, then pick a low drive dog. If the dogs’ parents are inside dogs, they lay around, hangout, wont chase a ball for longer then a few minutes…low drive. If the parents chase a ball all day long and bounce of the walls…High Drive.

A dogs breed is just a guide line, Nothing more.

Civilian, Law Enforcement and Military experience in the U.S and overseas. Basic and Advanced Obedience, On and Off leash Obedience, Behavior Modification, Problem Solving, House Breaking, Protection, Grooming and Boarding.

Training methods are based upon the dog’s personality. A dog can have one of six basic personality types or a combination of one or more. The method most commonly used is a combination and Drive training and K9 compulsion.

Obedience will solve 98% of all Behavioral problems. Obedience is Communication which gives us the Control. So, a dog that is pulling on the leash, we would use obedience to correct the problem. Now that you have control over your dog, you can use the Obedience to navigate and correct just about any behavioral problem.

Just a bit about Obedience Training:

I know your Dog is your Best friend and I want to be your Dogs New Best Friend.

At the International K9 Foundation we do all types of training with all types of dogs. We specialize in Behavior modification and Problem solving. First, think of your dog as a person and not a dog. When you do this, you can start to understand the Mental and psychological aspects of training and behavior. When you think about behavior Modification it’s easier if you think in terms of cause and effect. A dogs experience can effect and or change his behavior just as training will have an effect on the dogs’ behavior. Just remember, we want the training to have a positive effect on the dogs behavior. At the International K9 Foundation an evaluation is done to obtain a accurate picture of your dog overall. Something like this includes Personality, Drives, Temperament, lifestyle and experiences. All of these areas have an effect on your dogs overall behavior. Evaluating these areas will help us determine the method of training, how it’s applied, and how much training is needed. Think of obedience training as a means to interact with your dog, a way to communicate. You can use obedience to correct for inappropriate behavior in a way he or she understands. A basic obedience program can solve about 90% of all your behavioral problems simply by giving you a level of control over your dog. Example: A shy and submissive dog, the dog that tucks the tail, starts to pee and lies at your feet. Training can have a positive impact on this dog. Obedience can help build confidence and self esteem, thus modifying the dogs’ behavior. Also, obstacle course work can be used to strengthen and build the same areas in the dog. Sometimes the dog can be so submissive that obstacle course work has to be done before the actual obedience training is done. Well, you don’t have to but it does make a big difference in the obedience. So, bottom line…If you have a weak dog or would like to see a little more confidence in your dog, the obedience training can help. If you have an overly aggressive dog, the obedience training can give you a level of control and a means to correct his behavior. Now, keep in mind that not every trainer can do this for you but I can. A basic obedience program includes 5 commands and takes about 5 days before your dog is done. That’s right, 5 days. These basic commands are the commands you will need to interact with your dog on a daily basis. Somewhere down below I have a list of all the commands I teach and the programs. This basic program will solve about 90% of the behavioral problems you are having right now. Something else to keep in mind, the more obedience training you have; the greater the control, confidence and self esteem of your dog. When doing obedience training we are actually teaching your dog vocabulary words, yep..thats right. The motion or action of each command is the definition. This stimulates the learning, thus causing the dog to focus on us, thus giving us greater control. Now, take it from me that exercising your dog until his tongue is hanging out, will not solve your problems. The problems will still be there once he’s rested. Okay, just a few more things…I teach Heel on the left side, stepping off with the left foot, so when you lead with the right foot the dog stays put, that’s implied stay. Next, all training and programs come with lessons, that’s right..I said lessons. You need to know what each command looks like so you can tell if your dog is doing it right or not. You will also need to know how to correct your dog if he or she is not doing the command correctly.

Hello Everyone Thought you might enjoy this imformation.Hopefully it will help.
Dog training is psychology 101…Knowing and understanding the dog’s Drives and Personalities will help determine the method of training used. A good trainer has a wide variety of experience to draw from, experience dealing with the different personality types. The trainer must be able to adapt and change his method based on they see from the dog. This could change from day to day as the dog moves forward in the training.
When choosing a trainer, Make sure your Trainer has a Trainers Certification.
Keep in mind, what works for one dog, doesn’t mean it will work for all dogs. An example would be when a K9 Office tells you that he can train your Dog. K9 officers receive a handler’s course, basic instruction on how to handle their dog. Now, if he’s been to Dog Trainers School and can show you a Certificate for trainers, then you might be okay. Always ask questions.
Group Classes: I don’t recommend group classes for initial obedience training. Group classes are good for socialization, working around distractions and that’s about it. Usually the instructor uses a single method of training, One method for everyone. If your dog doesn’t get with the program, you fail. We already know that every dog is different, so the training has to be adapted to the individual dog.
When starting obedience training or any type of training, it’s always a good idea to limit the distraction at first. Once your dog has demonstrated an understanding of the task at hand, then you can ad distractions. When you limit the distractions in the beginning, you have more of your dog’s attention and he’s able to focus more on you. Think of it this way, trying to teach a child to read for the first time while a parade is going on? Get it?
One on One Training: One on One training or Private lessons is a good option if you don’t want to leave your dog for training. First, the instruction is tailored for you and your dog. Plus, you get the trainers full attention.
Puppies:
49days/7wks are the time when all the senses start to develop. Eyes, Hearing, Smell. This is a critical period for puppies.
Social period:
7-16wks is the socialization period for puppies. This is the time expose them to as much as possible like without forcing them. Examples would be other dogs, people, places, and noises.

DOGS:
Behavior: 2types of Behavior.
• Genetic: Breeding, passed along in the Gene Pool, Genetics
• Learned: Environmental influence, surroundings, observed behavior.
All dogs have one of six personality types:
• Happy go Lucky
• Aggressive
• Shy and/or under socialized
• Hyper active
• Fear biter
• Basket case = Displays multiple personalities
Drives:
• Pray drive
• Defense drive
• Fight drive
• Ball drive
• Hunt search drive
• Food drive
Defense:
• Pack defense
• Handler defense
• Object defense
• Pole or Self defense
